Specialist Stroke Physiotherapist

Seven Resourcing - East Staffordshire

Seven Medical are seeking a Stroke Physiotherapist in the East Staffordshire area.

The role:

* To work as an autonomous practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist assessment and treatment of patients who have had a Stroke.

* To work in partnership with other health and social care professionals, providing specialist advice and joined up care.

* To provide ongoing support, clinical supervision and appraisal to less senior staff.

* To demonstrate leadership skills and contribute to the day to day co-ordination of the overall caseload, deputising for more senior staff and assist with service development as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

* To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of clinical risk within own patient caseload.

* To be clinically responsible for patients accepted on to the caseload and to organise this with regards to clinical priorities, evidence-based practice, ensuring the most efficient use of skills time and resources.

* To undertake assessment of patients who have had a stroke including those with complex presentations. To use sound clinical reasoning skills to agree therapeutic goals, implementation of a specialist therapy programme, evaluation of outcome measures and appropriate discharge planning.

* To use sound clinical reasoning skills and broad specialist knowledge of treatment expertise and evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.

* To assess patient understanding of treatment proposals, gain and document valid informed consent and have the capacity to work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.

* To evaluate outcomes of your treatment as appropriate.

* To work within Virgin Care policies and procedures, Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) guidelines and standards of practice including maintaining accurate and comprehensive treatment records. To be active in maintaining knowledge of national and local standards, monitoring own and others quality of practice as appropriate.

* To supervise, educate and assess the performance of undergraduate physiotherapy students. Working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

* To supervise, educate and assess the performance of less senior physiotherapists, technicians and assistants, in line with the CSP's standards of clinical practice.

* To attend and contribute to multi-disciplinary team meetings to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service, and the integration of physiotherapy intervention into the treatment programme. This will include initiating discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning.

* To be responsible for organising, delegating and planning own caseload, to meet service and patient priorities, balancing patient related, professional and organisational demands.

* To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all gym equipment and patient appliances and aids. Ensure that less senior staff attain competency prior to use through training and supervision of practice.

* To demonstrate the physical ability to carry out physiotherapy assessments and interventions, including manual physiotherapy techniques and therapeutic handling.

* To work as a lone autonomous practitioner in the community as required by the Service.

* To process and provide complex or sensitive information in an understandable form to patients, carers and other members of the multi-disciplinary team taking into account cultural, religious and emotional needs.

Applicant Requirements:

Education /qualifications

* Diploma/degree in physiotherapy.
* HPCP registration.
* Evidence of CPD maintained in portfolio including attendance at recent master's level postgraduate courses relevant to clinical specialised field.
* Evidence of post graduate training in the management of neurological conditions
* Evidence of CPD
* Car Driver.

Experience

* Postgraduate experience of working in the NHS at a senior level in the field of neuro-rehabilitation
* Cross organisational/MDT working
* Use of evidence-based practice in a clinical setting
* Provision of professional/clinical leadership.
* Knowledge of relevant National Service Frameworks and clinical guidelines Experience of facilitating appraisal and supervision

Skills/Abilities

* Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner
* Ability and commitment to pass on knowledge / skills to others within both formal and informal environments.
* Remain updated with professional practice and new research.
* Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession.
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and audit.
* Ability to comprehend and work within the company's policies of data protection, equal opportunities and health and safety and meet the differing needs of patients.
* Able to carry out moderate to intense physical effort throughout the working day and carry out concurrent activities.
* Able to independently travel around the geographical area by car
