We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented HV Substation Designer to support the delivery of capital and maintenance projects across a wide range of substations. The successful applicant will be responsible for producing high-quality design documentation and providing technical support throughout the construction and commissioning phases.
This role requires an in-depth understanding of station control systems, network operations, protection schemes, and HV equipment operation, along with a strong commitment to safety and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning, scoping, and costing of projects in high voltage substations
Preparation of preliminary health and safety documentation and design risk assessments
Creation of detailed electrical designs, including layouts, schematics, and wiring schedules
Acting as the PSDP contact on projects and ensuring full compliance with safety legislation
Coordination with other discipline designers and external contractors/design teams
Use of CAE tools such as AutoCAD Electrical or E-Plan for electrical design
Providing ongoing technical support throughout the substation project lifecycle
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
Essential:
Electrical or design experience
Proficiency in CAD/CAE systems such as MicroStation or AutoCAD
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Desirable:
Experience implementing standards, policies, and quality systems to ensure high design standards
Familiarity with HV substation assets and infrastructure
Understanding of quality management systems and best practices
Strong project management capabilities
Qualifications:
Advanced Level 6 Electrical Craft Certificate OR
A suitable Level 7 or higher qualification in Electrical, Electrical Services, Electronics, Mechanical, Building Services, or a related discipline with significant electrical content
