A client within the Public Sector based in Devon is currently recruiting for a Planning Officer to join their Development Management Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a Planning environment.The RoleKey purpose of the role:To manage a caseload of planning applications and pre-application enquiries, ensuring compliance with Development Management processes, statutory requirements and Town and Country Planning legislation, while delivering high-quality recommendations within agreed performance targets.Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Managing a varied caseload of planning applications, ensuring statutory deadlines and Local Performance Indicators are met
• Assessing applications and pre-application submissions in line with planning policy and legislation
• Writing clear, well-structured reports with sound planning balance and recommendations
• Presenting applications at Planning Committee and public meetings where required
• Negotiating amendments with applicants and agents, including Section 106 agreementsThe CandidateTo be considered for this role you will require:
• A relevant degree, diploma or HNC in Town Planning or related discipline
• RTPI membership (or working towards / recently achieved Chartered status depending on grade)
• Demonstrable experience within a Local Authority Planning/Development Management teamThe below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong knowledge of Development Management processes and Town and Country Planning legislation
• Experience managing a diverse caseload independently
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and reports
• Experience negotiating S106 agreements and technical matters
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including committee presentation experience
• Experience using specialist planning software such as Uniform, Enterprise or DMS
