Schroders Armed Forces Programme

Our Armed Forces programme is designed to allow talented service leavers to gain the commercial experience to complement their existing skills, enabling them to build a long term career within the Schroders group.

Individuals are selected to join one of a number of business areas, dependent on their experience and the requirements of the business. All members of the programme will be given training and development opportunities in addition to interesting and varied work on a day to day basis.

Roles and Opportunities

The programme is a 6 month paid internship that runs from around May to November each year. The roles change each year, but you could work in one of a variety of areas including: Private Assets, Fixed Income, and Business Development.

Currently all roles are in the UK, in our London offices.

Who we are looking for:

To be eligible for this programme you must have completed a minimum of 1 year regular service in the Armed Forces. We recognise and value the typical qualities of former service personnel; we are looking for bright individuals with an evidenced background of high achievement within the Armed Forces. Individuals are expected to be degree level educated, demonstrate leadership, teamwork and problem solving skills as well as an interest in asset management.

We are looking for interns in the following areas:

Private Assets

We've been involved in the world of private assets since 1853. Today our specialist investment teams cover private equity, infrastructure, real estate and growing areas like lending to smaller businesses.

Fixed Income

Schroders' Fixed Income team comprises of 140 fund management specialists based around the world and they invest in fixed income assets including major government and corporate bonds, high-yield credit and foreign exchange. Schroders' fixed income funds have assets under management in Europe, the UK, the US, Asia-Pacific and emerging markets.

Business Development

A predominantly phone based role proactively engaging and prospecting with Advisory clients across the UK and supporting Discretionary clients. The role involves proactively promoting our product range, completing reactive requests from clients, and supporting regional Business Development teams as needed.

Essential skills and qualifications


• At least one year of active military service

• A keen interest in asset management industry

• Minimum 3 'A' levels, or equivalent, at grade A - C or above; or

• Degree qualified, or equivalent

• Professional, organised, detail oriented and motivated

• Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills

• Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills

• Must be self-driven and deliver results based on agreed targets

• High level of numeracy

• Intermediate level in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
