Assistant Director of Strategic Commissioning

Location: Hybrid working

Rate: £700 - £850 per day (Inside IR35)

Duration: 6 months initially

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Director of Strategic Commissioning (Adults) on an interim basis. This senior leadership role will drive the strategic commissioning agenda across Adult Social Care, ensuring high-quality, sustainable services that deliver improved outcomes for residents.

You will work closely with senior leaders, partners and providers to shape commissioning strategies, manage market relationships and ensure services are aligned with local priorities and statutory responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for Adult Social Care commissioning and market development
  • Lead the development and delivery of commissioning strategies and service transformation programmes
  • Ensure services are person-centred, outcome-focused and financially sustainable
  • Oversee contract management, procurement and market engagement with care providers
  • Drive improvements in service quality, performance and value for money
  • Work collaboratively with health partners, the voluntary sector and integrated care systems
  • Provide leadership across budget management, commissioning governance and risk management
  • Support organisational priorities around integration, prevention and community-based services

Key Requirements

  • Significant senior leadership experience within Adult Social Care commissioning
  • Strong understanding of commissioning frameworks and procurement processes
  • Proven experience delivering strategic commissioning programmes and service transformation
  • Excellent knowledge of Adult Social Care legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead partnerships across health, social care and external providers
  • Strong financial management and budget oversight experience
  • Excellent stakeholder management and leadership skills
