GMP Recruitment are proud to be in partnership with a long-established and reputable engineering firm based in the Birmingham area, specialising in high-performance industrial manufacturing. We are currently recruiting on their behalf for a Mechanical Fitter to join their Maintenance team on a full-time, permanent basis.

This position offers a competitive salary based on experience and provides the opportunity to work within a well-established engineering environment focused on reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.

Our client operates a busy production facility with large-scale hydraulic press systems and a variety of heavy industrial equipment. They are seeking an experienced and proactive individual with solid mechanical and hydraulic knowledge to help maintain and improve machinery uptime and site-wide engineering support.

Mechanical Fitter Main Responsibilities:

* Provide engineering support for hydraulic press systems and associated machinery.

* Carry out both planned preventative maintenance and responsive repair work on critical equipment.

* Respond quickly and efficiently to breakdowns to minimise production downtime.

* Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance press reliability and equipment performance.

* Maintain and monitor hydraulic systems, ensuring proper operation and timely servicing.

* Maintain a safe and organised working environment, adhering to all health and safety protocols.

* Assist in the development of critical spares stock management for key equipment.

* Deliver maintenance support across other engineering systems and machinery on-site.

* Collaborate with production teams to schedule work flexibly around operational requirements.

* Support and help train apprentices within the Maintenance team.

* Maintain high levels of health, safety, and housekeeping standards across the maintenance department.

* Ensure consistent availability and performance of hydraulic press systems to support production output.

* Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional conduct.

* Contribute to the upkeep and functionality of other machine tools and engineering equipment.

Mechanical Fitter required skills and experience:

* Strong working knowledge of hydraulic press systems and their operation.

* Time-served engineer with mechanical maintenance background (apprenticeship preferred).

* Demonstrable experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments.

* Flexible and proactive approach to shift patterns and production needs.

* Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve mechanical faults efficiently.

* Excellent teamwork and communication skills with a willingness to support and train junior staff.

* Understanding of critical spare parts management and system reliability improvements.
