Job Role: Plant fitter - Workshop Based

Location: Wellingborough

Basic Salary: £45,000 + Overtime - Yearly earnings of £50,000 - £55,000

Working ours: 07:00 - 17:00 - Monday - Friday

My client is a major player within the construction machinery sector. They are currently looking to add a new workshop based Plant Fitter to their growing team at their depot located in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspection) on new machines and fit additional parts and attachments as required.
  • Investigate, diagnose and resolve customer reports of technical problems with equipment.
  • Perform general engineering duties, including working at height and beneath/within machines.
  • Repair and maintain machinery using company-supplied lifting equipment.
  • Drive and manoeuvre machines inside and outside of the workshop.
  • Service a wide variety of machines within the workshop environment.
  • Work independently to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
  • Complete job cards to a high standard within agreed timeframes.
  • Complete all paperwork and timesheets accurately and promptly.
  • Request parts efficiently and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Supervise other workshop engineers when required, ensuring high-quality workmanship and safe working practices.
  • Provide cover for the Foreman during absence or annual leave.
  • Assist with booking machines in and out of the workshop.
  • Ensure machines are prepared and ready for transport/collection.
  • Follow all relevant procedures when repairing and inspecting equipment.
  • Ensure work and personal equipment complies with all safety standards.
  • Manage warranty parts returns in line with company procedures.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the Company Health and Safety Policy.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the business through teamwork and effective communication.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and housekeeping within the workshop.
  • Present a professional image at all times.
  • Ensure personal tools are safe and compliant for use.
  • Use only company-supplied lifting equipment (including straps, trolley jacks, etc.).
  • Remain flexible and adaptable to all aspects of the role.

Essential Requirements

  • City & Guilds Level 2 in Plant Maintenance & Repair or equivalent
  • OR recent hands-on experience working as a Plant Fitter
  • Solid mechanical knowledge across diesel, hydraulics, and electrical systems
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Good problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic
