A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in North Birmingham is seeking a passionate and dedicated DT Teacher with a specialism in Food Technology to join their team from January 2026. This is a full-time opportunity supported by Progress Teachers, who are assisting the school with their recruitment process.

We are looking for an enthusiastic educator who is committed to inspiring students and delivering high-quality teaching within a well-resourced Design & Technology department.

Key Responsibilities
As a DT Teacher (Food Technology Specialist), you will be responsible for:

*

Planning and delivering engaging Food Technology lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4

*

Supporting in the planning and delivery of other subjects under the DT umbrella as required.

*

Developing creative and practical schemes of work in line with the national curriculum

*

Ensuring a safe, clean, and well-organised food technology classroom and preparation areas

*

Teaching students practical cooking skills, food hygiene and nutrition

*

Assessing, marking and tracking student progress effectively

*

Differentiating lessons to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND and EAL students

*

Maintaining high standards of behaviour and classroom management

*

Contributing to the wider life of the school through meetings, CPD and extra-curricular activities

Person Specification - Requirements
The successful candidate will ideally have:

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification - Highly Desirable (experienced non-qualified teachers will be considered for the role)

*

A specialism or strong experience in Food Technology / Catering / Hospitality

*

Experience teaching DT or Food Technology at secondary level (KS3/KS4)

*

A strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene regulations and risk assessments

*

Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills

*

A positive, enthusiastic and resilient approach to teaching

*

The ability to build strong relationships with students, staff and parents
