Ad‑Hoc Day & Night Work | Preston, Morecambe & Lancaster

The Best Connection are currently recruiting experienced Class 1 (C+E) Drivers for ad‑hoc day and night cover across a range of reputable clients based in Preston, Morecambe and Lancaster. This opportunity is ideal for drivers seeking flexible work, varied assignments, and competitive pay rates.

Work availability is dependent on client demand and may include trunking, depot‑to‑depot, cage work, curtain sider, palletised goods, and general haulage, depending on the assignment.

Work Overview

Drivers will be required to support multiple logistics and distribution clients as and when cover is required. Assignments vary by client and may include both day and night shifts, with routes and duties clearly confirmed prior to each shift.

This role offers excellent flexibility and variety, making it suitable for drivers looking to top up hours or maintain ongoing ad‑hoc work.

Pay Rates

Pay rates vary depending on client, shift type and hours worked:

£15.00 - £26.25 per hour
Higher rates available for nights, overtime, and premium shifts

Typical Duties

Operating a Class 1 (C+E) vehicle safely and professionally
Trunking and depot‑to‑depot runs
Multi‑drop work where required
Cage and palletised deliveries (client dependent)
Completing vehicle checks in line with DVSA requirements
Completing all paperwork and delivery documentation accurately
Maintaining communication with transport offices

Driver Requirements

Minimum 1 year Class 1 (C+E) driving experience
Full UK driving licence with CE entitlement
Valid CPC and Digital Tachograph cards
No major endorsements (client dependent)
Strong knowledge of UK road networks
Reliable, professional, and safety‑focused attitude
Ability to be flexible with locations and shift types
