Development Manager - Renewable Energy

Our client is an independent power producer primarily focused on building and operating highly flexible small-mid scale embedded peaking generation and battery storage projects in the UK.

They are the largest provider of flexible generation in the UK and have a combined installed capacity of over 700 MW across circa 50 sites.

They are currently seeking an experienced Development Manager to drive business development of projects across England, with a brief of finding sites to originate projects, alongside the ability of negotiating with landowners and stakeholders. Assisting with planning developments and project management are also key elements in a broad, varied role.

This position will be a key part of the development team, managing a large and growing portfolio of projects across a range of technologies. This could be, battery storage, solar, grid stability schemes and hydrogen projects.

Alongside working from home, the ideal candidate will be able to visit and manage projects across England. Regular travel to clients' office HQ in Oxford will also be required.

Responsibilities

Lead with the identification of new development projects, working closely with the wider development team to apply site finding criteria.
Direct the preparation, submission and management of planning applications and associated discharge of planning conditions, managing third-party consultants.
Lead on the negotiation of property agreements to put in place heads of terms, options and leases.
Work with the connections team to assess the viability of sites, support the application process and maintain secured connections.
Develop strong relationships with landowners, agents and other stakeholders.
Generate and maintain project schedules, risk registers, budgets and take projects through an internal project management process, which includes key milestone reviews.
Undertake commercial modelling of opportunities to assess their viability and achieve key hurdle rates.
Work with the in-house GIS and design team to screen sites and input on-site design.
Undertake due diligence on projects the business are evaluating or looking to acquire.

Requirements

Confident, enthusiastic, and educated to degree level.
Experience in renewables project development is desirable, or transferable experience from commercial or residential land acquisition.
Commercial management skills are essential to maintain project budgets, undertake financial modelling and assess the commercial viability of projects.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
