1:1 SEMH Teaching Assistant – Basingstoke (ASAP Start – July 2026)
Reed Education is seeking a committed and resilient 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a welcoming primary setting located in the area of Basingstoke. This position is to start immediately and will continue until the end of the academic year.
The school is a small, village-based primary with approximately 105 pupils, offering a warm and community-focused environment. Ofsted recently described the school’s curriculum as “broad and ambitious”, highlighting strong early reading and phonics provision and pupil outcomes that sit well above national averages in reading and writing. Inspectors confirmed that safeguarding is effective, and the school continues to work proactively on improving attendance and behaviour.
The Role
The successful candidate will work on a 1:1 basis with a KS2 pupil presenting SEMH needs. The role involves:
- Providing consistent emotional regulation support and helping the pupil access learning.
- Implementing behaviour strategies under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
- Supporting social skills, confidence-building, and positive routines.
- Creating a safe, trusting relationship to help the pupil engage with the school day.
- Working collaboratively with staff, external professionals, and parents.
