Sole Accounts Manager / Senior Accounts Assistant

About the Role

We are supporting a growing business with a turnover of approx. £3M in recruiting a sole Finance Assistant/Assistant Accountant to manage the day-to-day and month-end finance function. This is a standalone role, responsible for producing accurate management accounts, overseeing all transactional finance duties, and acting as the main point of contact for external accountants.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone confident working independently and looking for a varied, hands-on finance position.

Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Reporting

• Prepare full monthly management accounts independently
• Complete all month-end processes including journals, accruals, and prepayments
• Assist with year-end preparation and liaise with external accountants
• Produce financial reports and analysis as required

Purchase Ledger

• Process supplier invoices
• Reconcile supplier statements
• Prepare and run weekly/monthly payment runs
• Resolve supplier queries

Sales Ledger

• Raise customer invoices
• Allocate payments and maintain up-to-date ledgers
• Reconcile accounts and ensure accurate billing

Credit Control

• Monitor aged debt
• Chase outstanding payments by phone/email
• Set up and manage customer credit terms
• Maintain strong customer relationships

Payroll

• Process monthly payroll for approx. 8 employees
• Handle starters, leavers, holidays, and sickness
• Submit required payroll information to HMRC
• Maintain accurate payroll records

General Finance Duties

• Bank reconciliations
• VAT returns
• Maintain financial systems and processes
• Act as the main point of contact for all finance queries

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

• Confident managing the finance function independently
• Experienced with month-end and year-end processes
• Able to produce a full set of management accounts without supervision
• Strong in transactional finance (PL, SL, Credit Control)
• Accurate, organised, and proactive
• Competent with accounting software and Excel

Part-qualified AAT / QBE candidates are very welcome.
