Are you a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a desire to work within a rewarding environment where no two days are the same?

Reed Education Southampton are currently seeking an excellent HLTA for a permanent position based within an SEMH Specialist School based in Bentley, Hampshire.

What is the school like?

The school is an independent specialist school providing a high-quality, therapeutic and child-centred education for boys aged 11-17 years old, catering to pupils with a range of backgrounds, all of which have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, with many also having Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. This includes Autism, ADHD and communication difficulties. Many of which have suffered significant trauma and adverse childhoods with a potential of social care involvement.

What would the role entail?The children within the school require very special adults who can support pupils with complex needs and challenging behaviours. You will know that the children require lots of attention, the right form of communication, consistency and flexibility, with a non-judgmental approach.You will also need to be a resilient, persistent and solution-focused individual to meet the needs of the children within your care.

You could also be:

  • supporting teachers in the classroom
  • working with children 1:1 or delivering sessions with small groups of students
  • managing classroom resources
  • taking children on trips and visits
  • having their lunch with children who struggle socially
  • managing heightened behaviours and keeping children safe
  • playing board games
  • conducting science experiments
  • making amazing displays
  • celebrating success
  • part of therapy sessions or reflecting on difficult periodsNOTE: Previous experience or similar will be a requirement for this position.
