Job Overview


The Security Welfare Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure and supportive environment for students, staff and visitors. This role combines frontline security duties with a strong focus on student welfare, ensuring that individuals feel safe, respected and able to fully engage in their learning environment.
The postholder will provide a visible and professional presence, helping to prevent and respond to incidents, while also building positive relationships with students to support their wellbeing. This is a varied, student-facing role requiring sound judgement, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in a range of situations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain a visible presence across the site to promote safety and deter inappropriate behaviour.
  • Monitor and respond to incidents, ensuring they are managed promptly and in line with organisational procedures.
  • Support the safeguarding and welfare of students, taking appropriate action where concerns arise.
  • Build positive relationships with students to encourage respectful behaviour and a supportive environment.
  • Work collaboratively with staff to address behavioural, welfare or safeguarding concerns.
  • Monitor access to the site, ensuring the safety and security of buildings, facilities and individuals.
  • Respond to emergencies and provide assistance in line with established procedures.
  • Record incidents accurately and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Support the wider learner services function where required.

Essential

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • Experience of working in a security, safeguarding, welfare or customer-facing role.
  • Good observational skills and the ability to assess and respond to risk.
  • Ability to engage positively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Reliable, organised and able to work independently.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
