Infrastructure Engineer - On-Prem & Cloud (Azure)

Location: Milton Keynes (on-site role)

A leading national technology and distribution group is seeking a proactive Infrastructure Engineer to support and enhance secure, high-availability systems across both on-premise and cloud environments. This is a hands-on role, based primarily from the Milton Keynes office, with occasional travel to a satellite site in Birmingham.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineer with strong Microsoft, Azure, and virtualisation experience to join a dynamic team working on hybrid infrastructure and contributing to enterprise-wide security and resilience.

About the Role

You'll be responsible for designing, managing, and maintaining IT infrastructure, with a focus on operational performance, cybersecurity, and service continuity. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities

* Design and support hybrid infrastructure across on-premise and Azure cloud environments

* Monitor and manage servers, SAN/NAS storage, switches, firewalls, and WAPs

* Implement upgrades, support backup and recovery, and ensure high system uptime

* Respond to incidents, support disaster recovery plans, and reduce technical risk

* Collaborate within an Agile delivery environment (sprint planning, retrospectives)

* Maintain up-to-date documentation and promote knowledge sharing

What We're Looking For

* Strong technical grounding in Microsoft infrastructure, Azure, and virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware)

* Good understanding of networking protocols (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs)

* Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, endpoint protection, and firewall tools

* Ability to troubleshoot complex issues independently and work cross-functionally

* Excellent documentation and stakeholder engagement skills

* Comfortable with office-based work in Milton Keynes, with occasional travel

Desirable Experience

* Exposure to Palo Alto firewalls and LogicMonitor (or equivalent monitoring tools)

* Hands-on experience with SAN/NAS provisioning, tuning, and backup strategies

* Working knowledge of Agile methodologies in an IT/infrastructure context
