Offering £13.05 per hour, paid weekly - every Friday
Working 5 days out of 7 on shifts between 6am-7pm
Location: Dual locations across Drewsbury - Huddersfield
Contract: Temporary on-going (6 month initial contract), Full Time

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and customer‑focused Assistant Market Officer to support the daily operation of a range of markets across the district. These include major and smaller markets, farmers markets, themed events, and markets operating throughout the year.

This is a frontline role where you will help ensure traders, visitors, and users of the markets have a safe, clean, and welcoming environment. You will be part of a team responsible for maintaining high standards of customer care, market presentation, and operational efficiency.


Key Responsibilities

* Maintain and manage market buildings, stalls, and facilities to agreed standards
* Deliver excellent customer service to traders and market users
* Help ensure markets remain vibrant, safe, and well‑presented
* Set up market stalls in a timely and efficient manner
* Carry out basic maintenance tasks, including minor repairs and replacements
* Keep market areas clean, tidy, and safe
* Conduct security checks and support locking/unlocking of buildings, including alarm systems
* Assist with events and themed market activities
* Communicate effectively with internal teams, traders, and the public
* Support operational tasks across various market locations within the district


What We're Looking For:

* Ability to carry out basic maintenance (e.g., replacing locks, bulbs, fuses, etc.)
* Ability to travel between work locations across the district
* Willingness to work flexibly, including rota and unsocial hours
* Full, valid driving licence (ability to tow trailers is an advantage)
* Willingness to undertake a medical health screening due to the physical nature of the role

* You may be required to work public holidays
* This role includes physical tasks and heavy lifting
* Safeguarding responsibilities apply
* Flexibility across a 362‑day operating calendar is essential
