Overview:
My client is seeking an experienced Consultant Naval Architect to lead and deliver a certification strategy for a gas turbine powerplant installation on a warship platform. This project will ensure full compliance with Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules (NSR) 2020 and requires close collaboration with multiple stakeholders including OEMs, suppliers, and Lloyds Register representatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Define and interpret Lloyd's Register requirements applicable to the warship powerplant.

*

Develop a comprehensive certification strategy based on prior frameworks.

*

Plan and lead certification activities across design, build, and approval phases.

*

Liaise directly with Lloyd's Register to gain agreement on approach and execution.

*

Coordinate and define communication pathways between OEM build lines, purchasing teams, and design authorities.

*

Support creation and agreement of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) between suppliers and Lloyds representatives.

*

Assess substantiation and design documentation to secure Drawing Approval Documents (DADs).

*

Identify risks related to compliance, timescales, and cost; escalate appropriately.

*

Seek opportunities to streamline the certification process while maintaining compliance.

*

Provide feedback and reporting to internal stakeholders and customers for ongoing improvement.

Essential Skills & Experience:

*

Deep knowledge of Lloyd's Register Naval Ship Rules (NSR) 2020 as applied to warship powerplant installations.

*

Proven experience in gas turbine or similar propulsion system projects, ideally within defence or naval environments.

*

Strong technical understanding of design documentation and technical databases.

*

Skilled in technical reporting, drawing interpretation, and data management.

*

Awareness of export control and IP protection in cross-border design collaboration.

*

Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with MS Teams is beneficial.

*

Must be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC) due to the sensitive nature of the project.

Additional Information:

*

The role is strictly on-site due to security and defence project constraints.

*

Flexible base location in either Bristol or Derby, with all work performed from the office.
