About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Design Connections Engineer to play a pivotal role in developing innovative solutions for electrical infrastructure projects. This position is ideal for professionals with strong problem-solving skills, technical expertise, and a passion for delivering seamless electrical designs.

As part of our dynamic and forward-thinking team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing efficient connection systems that power critical infrastructure. You will collaborate with industry experts, ensuring that electrical connections meet regulatory standards, operational requirements, and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

🔹 Design and produce electrical connection solutions for ICP projects, ensuring compliance with G81, ENA, and DNO requirements
🔹 Carry out HV/LV design calculations, including voltage drop, short circuit analysis, and protection settings
🔹 Prepare technical specifications for transformers, switchgear, feeder pillars, and associated electrical components
🔹 Develop cable sizing and trench profiles, using software such as Trimble, CYMCAP, and AutoCAD
🔹 Review earthing designs for electrical sites and ensure compliance with industry standards
🔹 Conduct feasibility studies for new connection applications, assisting with stakeholder approvals and technical queries
🔹 Liaise with project managers, CAD teams, and contractors to ensure smooth delivery from design to implementation
🔹 Collaborate with the SCADA team to integrate electrical designs into network systems
🔹 Attend factory acceptance tests and site inspections to validate equipment compliance and performance
🔹 Support junior engineers with technical guidance, ensuring consistent design standards across projects

Requirements

✔️ Experience with 11kV electrical designs (33kV experience highly desirable)
✔️ Proven background in ICP electrical connections, including contestable works
✔️ Proficiency in electrical design software such as Amtech, Windebut, Trimble, and CYMCAP
✔️ Strong understanding of British Standards (BS), IEC regulations, and industry frameworks
✔️ Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to design practical and cost-effective solutions
✔️ Ability to liaise with stakeholders, including DNOs, contractors, and internal teams
✔️ Experience attending factory acceptance tests, site inspections, and design review meetings
✔️ Knowledge of SCADA integration and electrical block diagrams
