Senior Ecologist - based in Congleton, with flexibility regarding office / home working.

Gladman are a well-respected and established strategic land promoter based in Congleton, Cheshire. We believe in creating truly sustainable developments, and to support this we are forming a new in-house Ecology and Environmental team and we need an accomplished senior ecologist to lead the team. 

We'll welcome you and the qualities you bring in joining a wider in-house team of experienced planners and project managers working on a country-wide portfolio of residential projects. Our approach is team based bringing together a focused group of people working on large and small sites. This is your chance to influence site proposals from the outset and to provide an ecology-led solution.

As the Senior Ecologist your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking ecological field work
  • Preparation of biodiversity chapters for EIARs
  • Preparation of Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Appropriate Assessment (AA) Screening
  • Compiling reports and Natural Impact Statements (NIS)
  • Project managing ecological survey works
  • Managing and mentoring junior team members
  • Consulting with regulators and statutory bodies
  • Engaging with stakeholders and management

Requirements for this Senior Ecologist role:

  • Solid professional ecological experience, ideally gained within an environmental consultancy
  • Degree in Ecology or Science equivalent. MSc preferable
  • Experience undertaking ecological surveys including habitat, mammals, and bird surveys
  • Experience of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) and Appropriate Assessment (AA)
  • Excellent data analysis and information management skills
  • Experienced people manager
  • Ability to work well in multi-disciplinary teams, building effective working relationships
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Strong communication skills, including technical report writing skills
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Valid full UK driving licence
  • Membership of a professional body is desired although not essential
