Key Responsibilities

Producing and assuring robust cost estimates aligned with defined scope and delivery requirements.
Managing and supporting commercial and procurement strategies alongside procurement leads, ensuring tender processes are followed correctly.
Ensuring subcontracts are accurately prepared, reflect agreed scope, and are managed in accordance with contractual obligations.
Providing accurate, live cost forecasting in line with the project programme and reporting structures.
Monitoring actual costs against baseline estimates, identifying and challenging variances where appropriate.
Preparing regular cost reports, analysing variances, and identifying root causes and corrective actions.
Administering the main project contract in line with agreed commercial and governance requirements.
Overseeing the timely issue of early warnings and advising senior project stakeholders on contractual and compliance matters.
Maintaining robust commercial records to support audits, governance, and cost assurance activities.
Ensuring final accounts are prepared accurately and in a timely manner.
Developing and implementing mitigation strategies to manage commercial risk and protect project outcomes.
Proactively identifying and managing opportunities, including the development and delivery of value‑adding initiatives.
Monitoring the progress of identified efficiencies and reporting any variances against agreed plans.
Reporting any withheld, disputed, or disallowed costs to senior commercial and project stakeholders.
Leading, managing, and developing a small commercial team.
Supporting the mentoring and professional development of team members.

Skills, Experience & Behaviours

Degree‑educated, ideally with a relevant professional qualification (e.g. RICS, CIOB, CICES or equivalent).
Demonstrable experience managing complex infrastructure or construction projects, including multi‑million‑pound values.
Strong ability to manage change and confidently challenge decisions where required.
Previous experience working with industry‑standard forms of contract, alongside estimating, negotiation, and stakeholder management expertise.
A collaborative, open, and proactive approach, with a strong commercial focus and sense of ownership.
Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across multiple disciplines
