Accountant – Plymouth

£30,000 | 1-year maternity contract | Professional Services

A busy professional services firm is looking for a detail-focused Accountant to support their finance function. This varied role covers core accounting, occasional payroll and preparing personal tax and self-assessment returns.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce management accounts to trial balance
• Month-end processes: accruals, prepayments, reconciliations
• Bank & balance sheet reconciliations
• Support budgeting, forecasting & audit prep
• Process payroll when required
• Prepare personal tax returns & assist with tax compliance
• Support VAT returns
• Handle purchase/sales ledger and expenses
• Assist with finance projects and process improvements

What You’ll Bring:

• AAT Level 4 (part-qualified considered) / ACCA / CIMA (or QBE)
• Experience in professional services or supporting a small business
• Strong accounting and self-assessment tax skills
• Confident with accounting/payroll software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, BrightPay)
• Excellent attention to detail & organisation
• Strong Excel skills

Desirable:

• Experience managing a client portfolio
• Knowledge of VAT, corporation tax or CIS
