Team player with good technical skills in the design of fire protection, fire detection systems and mechanical systems for retail and/or commercial buildings. Plans and conducts work requiring judgment and application of fire protection design practices. Has a general knowledge and understanding of the project development process including construction, fire protection, and mechanical system design and MEP criteria as applicable. Examines field conditions, conceptual and construction documents to develop a constructible system conforming to applicable codes. Complete calculations, drawings, and specifications related to fire suppression and detection systems. Works with internal/external team members as applicable checks shop drawings, conducts site visits, and assists Project Manager or Senior Project Manager as needed. Performs most assignments with instructions only as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex design issues and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Reports to the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Protection Engineering.
5 years experience in the design of fire protection systems for retail, multi-family and /or commercial buildings
Licensure in mechanical engineering field is required.
Good working knowledge of NFPA building codes, zoning regulations and the approval process.
Good understanding and knowledge of building systems and site requirements (mechanical, electrical and plumbing)
Highly organized, detail-driven and conscientious.
Proficient in current version of AutoCAD, HydraCalc, Revit, Excel and other engineering design software.
