Universal Credit Advisor Location: King’s Lynn Salary: Circa £20,000 per annum, plus excellent Benefits Package Hours of Work: 37 hours per week About the Company: Our client was set up in 2006 and now manages around 7,000 homes and 17 sheltered schemes in West Norfolk. They employ over 200 people, including their own Property Services team of operatives. As part of the e2 consortium, their combined aim is to build strong and sustainable communities by providing high quality affordable homes within well designed neighbourhoods. This is a great time to join our clients expanding business. Working in their Income Team, you will be responsible for working alongside your Income Advisor colleagues to manage a caseload of customers in receipt of Universal Credit. In doing so you will provide an effective arrears management service which aims to minimise the risk of increasing rent arrears. Universal Credit Advisor Responsibilities:
•Effectively manage a case load of UC claimants, providing timely and comprehensive advice and guidance to ensure that claims are managed successfully, and that arrears are minimised, through contact face to face, in the office and in customers’ homes, and over the phone.
•Comply with legislative and policy requirements to manage the rent accounts of UC claimants, escalating cases robustly in accordance with procedure to meet corporate and team targets.
•Work closely with colleagues to triage and refer UC claimants to in-house support, or external agencies for further specialist advice as appropriate, paying particular attention to coordinating support for those claimants who may be financially or digitally excluded.
•Build close working relationships with Job Centre colleagues to provide a joined up, comprehensive advice service for UC ;
•Take responsibility for developing your own knowledge and that of colleagues in relation to Universal Credit, leading on the provision of in-house training and advice delivery
•Guided by the Income Manager, take the lead on operational preparations for further UC roll out.
•Work closely with the Income Manager and Income Team Leader to capture learning from the Universal Credit claim experience of customers and feed into improvement plans for future service development.
•Occasional attendance at meetings, conferences and training courses outside of normal working hours and/or requiring an overnight stay requires flexibility around working hours Universal Credit Advisor Requirements:
•Proven experience within a customer service environment working for a housing provider or other public service organisation, including face-to-face interaction with customers
•Demonstration of a balanced approach when working with customers, to include high level of customer care with the need for maximising rent collection
•Knowledge of debt collection and agencies involved in the support of vulnerable customers
•Knowledge of welfare benefits, specifically Universal Credit and the impact on our residents
•Proven experience of working to achieve specific targets Minimum of 5 GCSEs A-C grades or equivalent including English & Maths
•Proven experience of working with a computer and an understanding of all Microsoft Office applications
•Frequent travel to other sites, customer homes and developments will be required therefore the ability to travel daily and access to a vehicle (Essential)
•Basic Disclosure & Barring Service check (Essential) Desirable:
•Qualification in Housing Management
