I am seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join a fantastic local authority in Birmingham. The ideal candidate will be immediately available, possess the ability to manage a team, be onsite 1-2 days per week and must possess local authority experience. This role will fall inside of IR35, paid a daily rate between £500-£650.
- Oversee the production of accurate and timely financial reports, forecasts, and statutory accounts in accordance with CIPFA and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure effective financial controls, risk management, and compliance with all relevant legislation and internal policies.
- Lead and manage the finance team, ensuring high performance, resilience, and staff development.
- Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.
- Coordinate external and internal audit processes and respond to audit recommendations.
- Collaborate with elected members, service directors, external auditors, and partner organisations to ensure transparency and accountability.
- Provide financial oversight and support to major projects, capital programmes, and partnership initiatives.
Person Specification:Essential: - Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Extensive experience in public sector finance, ideally within a local authority setting.
- Proven track record of managing large-scale budgets and leading finance teams.
- Strong knowledge of local government finance frameworks, including budgeting, accounting, and audit requirements.
- Ability to work at pace, provide strategic insight, and influence senior stakeholders.
