We are currently recruiting for a Rent Income Officer on behalf of a local authority client based in Cambridgeshire. This is a temporary opportunity within the Finance - Revenues and Benefits service, offering hybrid working and the chance to support a busy public sector team delivering key income and benefits services.
This Rent Income Officer role will focus on supporting the administration, collection, and recovery of council income streams while assisting with benefits-related processes where required. The successful Rent Income Officer will play an important role in helping the council maintain strong collection performance while delivering a high-quality service to residents and businesses.
As a Rent Income Officer, you will work as part of a wider Revenues and Benefits team responsible for managing customer accounts, supporting income recovery, and ensuring services are delivered in line with legislation and council policy.

Key Responsibilities of a Rent Income Officer:
Manage customer enquiries via telephone, email, and written correspondence, providing a high standard of service
Maintain and update customer accounts across Council Tax, Business Rates, and other council income streams
Assess and process Housing Benefit, Council Tax Support, and discretionary awards where required
Identify, manage, and recover benefit overpayments in line with legislation
Negotiate repayment arrangements with customers to recover outstanding balances
Issue reminders, final notices, and court documentation for unpaid debts
Liaise with organisations such as the Valuation Office Agency regarding property and account changes
Provide basic income and budgeting advice and signpost customers to support services including Citizens Advice
Maintain accurate records and ensure all transactions meet service performance targetsWe are looking for candidates with:

Experience working in local authority revenues, benefits, or income recovery services
Knowledge of Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit, or debt recovery processes
Strong administrative and case management skills
Ability to negotiate payment arrangements and manage customer accounts
