Position: Chief Technology Officer Ecommerce

Location: Fredericksburg, Va

Employment: Full-Time In-House Position



Do you want to make a multi-million dollar commerce company even better? We are an award-winning and WSJ featured e-tailer serving the web for over 20 years, and still growing. We're evolving our systems and development team and are looking for an ambitious technical lead to help get us to the next stage. We are headed to the Magento platform and need a developer/manager to lead the charge. Experience with Magento and PHP and must. Leadership, management, and creative thinking skills are ideal, but SEO and ecommerce experience and actual coding experience and ability are requirements.

Daily operations

This position is not just management but the successful candidate will be willing and able to get into the weeds and code as needed and will work closely with a designer to develop web pages and back-end logic to support business projects. The candidate will also review and support the current code and other internal resources to ensure it performs as expected and follows industry best practices for coding, performance and Search Engine Optimization (SEO).


The ideal candidate would be responsible for:

  • Document technical designs for custom site features.

  • Magento is likely in the future and so, PHP and direct experience with Magento 2 is preferred

  • Develop using business requirements from internal and external resources across several areas including front-end (client-side), back-end (server-side), and/or web service technologies.

  • Report project status and updates to the Senior Management team.

  • Ensure web pages/site follows best practices from a coding, SEO, and performance perspective.

  • Work with web designers to deliver pages that integrate text, graphics, sound, and/or video.

  • Explain pros and cons of design approaches from a technical perspective to non-technical business partners.

  • An understanding of the fundamentals and concepts of Magento, PHP, and Zend

  • Document developed code and maintain quality standards..

  • Apply knowledge of ecommerce and web technology to business strategies and opportunities to drive the business to success.

  • You can and may be a part of hiring your entire engineering team. We have an in-house creative department including our design, photographers and copywriting, support for our ERP and plenty of us are familiar with our in-house hardware processes.


Required skill set:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with minimum 3-5 years hands-on e-commerce development experience

  • Demonstrable knowledge of PHP, XML, XHTML, JSON, CSS, Modules i.e. API integration, Payment Gateways, XML with a focus on standards

  • Magento 2 experience is a plus.

  • Experience supporting an e-commerce platform with two or more published e-commerce websites under your belt

  • Extensive experience of PHP 7 and MySQL

  • Demonstrable GIT source control experience

  • Thorough knowledge of SEO required

  • Experience with Linux and Windows Servers
