Our client, a leading water sector specialist are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to be based in Huddersfield.
  
This role is working within the water sector and previous water experience is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and review detailed mechanical design documentation for pumping systems, pipework layouts, filtration units, and water and wastewater treatment systems.
Collaborate closely with civil and electrical engineering teams to deliver fully integrated, multidisciplinary solutions.
Participate in regular client meetings, including weekly progress updates and hazard reviews, ensuring alignment with project goals and client expectations.
Coordinate with the supply chain to specify, select, and procure mechanical equipment in line with project specifications.
Conduct site visits to carry out surveys, inspections, and reviews of installation progress.
Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.
Support effective communication and coordination with all stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
Effective time management and execution of work within defined timelines.   
Required Skills & Experience:

Degree/HNC/HND qualified or similar in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
Proven experience in mechanical system design within the water or wastewater sector.
Familiarity with UK water industry standards and best practices, including WIMES.
Proficient in interpreting and producing P&IDs, mechanical layouts, and technical specifications.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively across teams and with clients.
Full UK driving licence, with flexibility to travel to site when required.
Experience with 3D design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D or Revit.
Chartered Engineer status or actively working towards it (e.g., through IMechE)
