Barnardo’s, the UK’s largest children’s charity, is seeking a talented and committed Surveying Professional to join our dynamic Property Services team. This is your chance to play a vital role in supporting our mission to transform the lives of the most vulnerable children and young people.

About the Role

As a key member of our Property Services team, you’ll lead and deliver a range of surveying and maintenance activities across Barnardo’s diverse property portfolio. From project planning to compliance management, you’ll help ensure our spaces are safe, effective, and aligned with the charity’s goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver a comprehensive property maintenance and management service.
  • Lead complex building projects and programmes of work.
  • Conduct inspections and oversee the design and execution of refurbishments and fit-outs.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant building standards, legislation, and health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager – Surveying Services to foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and knowledge sharing.
  • Respond to maintenance queries and manage issues swiftly and effectively.

What We’re Looking For

  • HNC (or equivalent) in Building, Surveying, or Construction. Professional qualifications also considered.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing large-scale property portfolios.
  • Proven success in leading complex building maintenance and construction projects.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel as needed across Scotland and potentially the UK.

Why Join Barnardo’s?

At Barnardo’s, we value our people and are committed to supporting your development, wellbeing, and work-life balance. We’ve introduced a modern pay and reward framework (launched April 2023) to ensure our colleagues are fairly recognised and supported to grow.

Benefits Include:

  • 26 days’ annual leave, rising with service (up to 30 days)
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Option to buy up to 5 extra days of leave per year
  • Generous sick pay and enhanced family leave policies

  • Death in service cover (4x salary)

  • Discounts at major retailers, supermarkets, gyms, and holidays
  • 20% discount at Barnardo’s stores
  • Optional health cash plan
  • 24/7 employee assistance programme
  • Learning and development opportunities
