Teaching Assistant - Autism Support (Full-Time)
Location: Newark, Nottinghamshire (NG24)
Pay: £90 - £100 per day (paid via PAYE - no umbrella company fees)
Contract: Long-term, with the potential for a permanent role
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm (term time only)
Start Date: As soon as possible

Are you looking for a rewarding teaching assistant role where you can support autistic pupils to flourish? Do you have recent experience working in a school and a recognised education-based qualification?

We are working in partnership with a specialist school in Newark (NG24), which provides high-quality, structured education for autistic children and young people. The school offers a calm, consistent and nurturing environment, helping pupils develop confidence, communication, and independence in a way that suits their individual needs.

This position is ideal for someone who understands the needs of autistic learners and who can support teaching and learning through a flexible and person-centred approach.

Key responsibilities:

Providing 1:1 and small group support for autistic pupils aged 5 to 16

Assisting with individual education plans and supporting routine-based learning

Encouraging positive interaction and communication through structured activities

Helping pupils manage transitions and reduce anxiety throughout the school day

Supporting teaching staff in delivering engaging, tailored lessons

Promoting a safe, calm, and respectful classroom environment

Essential requirements:

Recent experience working in a UK school setting

A recognised education-based qualification, such as CACHE Level 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent)

A strong understanding of autism and how it can impact learning and behaviour

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

A patient, compassionate, and consistent approach to supporting young people

Desirable qualities:

Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or those who use alternative communication methods

Knowledge of strategies such as Makaton, PECS, or sensory regulation
