Mechanical Design Engineer – Hydraulics / Heavy Machinery

We are working with a well-established engineering manufacturer specialising in highly specialised, heavy-duty equipment used in demanding environments. Due to continued growth and investment, they are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong experience in hydraulic systems and mobile or industrial machinery.
This is an opportunity to join a close-knit engineering team working on complex, bespoke products where reliability and performance are critical.
The Role
You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanical systems, with a particular focus on hydraulics and associated components. The role will involve working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies for heavy-duty equipment
- Producing detailed 3D models and engineering drawings
- Supporting prototype development, testing, and validation
- Collaborating with manufacturing and production teams
- Ensuring designs meet relevant industry and safety standards
- Contributing to continuous improvement and product development initiatives
About You
We are looking for engineers with a strong practical understanding of machinery used in demanding environments.
You will ideally have:
- Experience in hydraulic system design (essential)
- Background in heavy machinery, off-highway vehicles, defence, or industrial equipment
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor or similar)
- Understanding of fabrication, welding, and mechanical assemblies
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Desirable:
- Experience with mobile equipment or tracked/wheeled machinery
- Knowledge of relevant standards and compliance requirements
