SENDIASS Case Officer – Level 3 & 4 Casework
Pay: £26.60 per hour (PAYE)
Umbrella: £34.79 per hour
Hours: Part time, 3.5 days per week
Duration: 3 months initially (with extension)
Location: Barnsley Local area – travel in and out of area required
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced SENDIASS Case Officer to deliver Level 3 and Level 4 casework directly to service users across the local area. This is a vital role providing independent, confidential, and impartial Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information, Advice and Support (SENDIASS) to parents, carers, and young people.
You will work directly with families to ensure they are fully informed of their rights and options, and you will advocate for them across a range of SEND contexts, including formal SEND Tribunal processes and hearings.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver Level 3 & 4 SEND casework to service users in the community
Provide tailored information, advice and advocacy across the SEND landscape
Support and advise parents, carers and young people, ensuring their voice remains central
Prepare detailed, complex SEND documentation, reports, and case records
Provide representation and support for families during mediation and SEND Tribunal processes
Collaborate with local authorities, schools, and other agencies
Undertake assessments, home visits, and multi-agency meetings
Maintain accurate case management records
Travel in and out of the area to meet service users’ needs
What We’re Looking ForExperience & Knowledge
Strong understanding of the SENDIASS service and its statutory functions
Extensive and up-to-date knowledge of SEND legislation, guidance and statutory processes (e.g., Children & Families Act, SEND Regulations)
Proven experience working directly with parents, carers, and young people
Demonstrated advocacy experience across various SEND scenarios, including Tribunal cases
Ability to complete complex forms, documentation and statutory paperwork
Experience undertaking assessments and providing high-quality SEND advice
Understanding of home–school liaison and multi-professional working
Skills & Competencies
Excellent communication and report-writing skills
Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills, comfortable challenging systems where needed
Ability to prioritise a demanding caseload
Able to work independently and within team structures
Flexible, proactive, and empathetic approach to service users
Other Requirements
Ability to travel in and out of the area to support service users effectively
Willingness to undertake further training (e.g. IASS Legal Training Levels 1–3)
