Job Title: Assistant Manager

Location: Southend-on-Sea

Salary: £29,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week (exact start times as directed by the Registered Manager, on-call is required as directed by the Registered Manager)

Reports to: Registered Manager

Purpose of the Role:

To support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the service, ensuring high standards of care, compliance with CQC regulations, and a positive working environment for staff and residents. The Assistant Manager will act as a role model, offering leadership, guidance, and practical support to the team while maintaining a strong focus on residents' wellbeing and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in managing the daily operations of the home, ensuring high-quality support is consistently provided

Lead and supervise the staff team, including rota planning, supervisions, and shift leadership

Ensure the service meets or exceeds CQC and other regulatory standards

Support in developing and implementing care and support plans that promote recovery, independence, and choice

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, risk assessments, and audits

Liaise with external professionals, families, and stakeholders as appropriate

Participate in the on-call rota and provide hands-on support when needed

Assist with recruitment, induction, and training of staff

Promote safeguarding and maintain a safe and nurturing environment for residents and staff

Deputise for the Registered Manager during periods of absence

Person Specification:

Essential:

Experience working in a residential or supported living service for adults with mental health needs

Supervisory or team-leading experience in a care setting

Strong understanding of CQC regulations, safeguarding, and person-centred care

Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills

NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent)

Willingness to work flexibly including evenings, weekends, and participate in the on-call rota

Desirable:

NVQ/QCF Level 5 in Leadership and Management (or willingness to work towards)

Knowledge of trauma-informed care and Positive Behaviour Support

Experience working with individuals with forensic histories or complex mental health diagnoses

A full UK driving licence
