This position exists in order to retrieve and prepare assorted paperboard die tooling, (dies, crease plates, waste removal units and blank separation units), in advance of machine processing in a manner that maximizes machine preparedness and minimizes machine down-time. The position also exists in order to breakdown that tooling upon project completion and return the assorted tooling pieces to inventory to await subsequent use.
Three months experience in the set-up of paperboard die cut tooling or six months experience operating paperboard die cutting machinery is preferred but not necessary.
Without the above previous experience, education in a printing, carpentry or mechanical environment is preferred.
Approximately three months is required to learn details of job duties and attain acceptable degree of proficiency on the simpler projects and tasks. Typically, greater than six months experience is required in order to attain acceptable level of proficiency on the more complex projects and tasks.
Basic computer competency is preferred.
Must be capable of working independently after initial training period.
Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and re-formulation of plans.
Must be capable of handling multiple tasks.
Creativity and analytical ability desirable.
*Reviews job specifications including job order directions, department supplemental instructions, die vinyl/diagrams, samples and proofs.
*Performs inspection of dies before set-up.
*Accurately and securely installs die boards in die chases.
*Pieces together strip dies and changes die plugs for assorted die combinations.
*Creates crease plates, using either Servo Table, channel creasing knives or channel creasing matrix.
*Creates waste removal units.
*Creates blank separation tools.
*Verifies quality and specification aspects as per checklists.
*Documents individual production.
Retrieves various die tooling from inventory and returns tooling to inventory after job completion.
Applies ejection rubber to dies.
Performs minor repairs, including re-applying ejection rubber and modifying dies or refers complex repairs and modifications to the die makers.
Delivers tooling to the machine area.
Assists the die cutting machine operator load die tooling into the machinery and obtain die impressions.
Retrieves die tooling units after production.
Dismantles die tooling, waste removal tooling and blank separation tooling after job completion.
Cleans creasing plates after job completion.
All other task as assigned.
