Position Summary:

This position is responsible for receiving customer orders, applying clinical knowledge to appropriateness of prescription orders, verification of processed orders, working collaboratively with other pharmacists and compounding pharmacy technicians to compound orders, assisting in the formulation and execution of new compounds, and other duties as assigned.

 

Essential Elements of the Job:

  • Using NexGen computerized compounding system, weigh and record the chemicals included in the formula and then combine the chemicals into the appropriate dosage form as requested by the prescription.
  • Receive and process customer orders. Including order entry into pharmacy computer system
  • Responsible for the preparation of compounded sterile preparations and related activities under the direction of the Pharmacist in Charge (PIC). Assists in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, interns and other support personnel.
  • Prepares compounded sterile preparations using aseptic technique and NexGen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Assures pharmacy compliance with rules and regulations of the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy and other regulatory agencies.
  • Reviews orders and prescriptions for mixing and dispensing. Resolves order discrepancies and problems with customer pharmacy personnel.
  • Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns, reviewing their work for accuracy while ensuring compliance with NexGen Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Provides employee performance feedback to Pharmacist in Charge (PIC)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to operate NexGen automation equipment. Including calibration and proper documentation of scales, electronic meters, etc.
  • Ability to work well with other NexGen employees and the management team.
    • Knowledge of cleanroom functions, aseptic technique, relevant cGMP’s, USP (797), and other applicable USP chapters.
  • Ability to interface with customers and apply good phone etiquette skills when speaking to customers. Including answering questions and provide consultation, when necessary, to customers.
  • Ability to perform quality control functions as assigned.
    • Knowledge of company policies and procedures and the ability to monitor for compliance.
  • Computer literate in windows environment and computer systems.
  • Ability to operate various types of office equipment.

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BS or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree
  • Current TX license
  • Chemistry background or advanced compounding training
  • Willingness to acquire additional state licenses as requested by management
  • Compounding and/or laboratory experience strongly preferred but not required
  • Strong math skills are essential
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Must exhibit excellent customer service skills
  • Must exhibit excellent problem resolution skills
    • Must be capable of wearing all protective wear as required by State Board of Pharmacy. This includes, but not limited to? mask, gloves, gown, hair net, safety goggles etc.
    • Must have knowledge of basic principles, theories and laws, policies and procedures that pertain to compounding
    • Exhibit punctuality and low absenteeism

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Pharmacists will work in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking for prolonged periods of time
  • Exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)
  • Must be able to use necessary equipment such as computers, scanners, phone/headset, or other technology devices as assigned
  • Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required
