The successful candidate will lead the Compliance Policy and Design Standards (CPDS) team and have a personal role in shaping the future of how the tax system supports compliance.

CPDS work closely with colleagues in Customer Strategy and Tax Design (CSTD) and HM Treasury to ensure policy is developed with compliance “designed in” and that the impacts of policy change on compliance and CCG requirements are understood. The team also help identify compliance risk and develop policy or investment proposals to help address those.

This includes developing measures to close the Tax Gap at fiscal events and looking at where longer term policy reform can manage compliance risks. The team leads the HMRC’s long term vision about how Tax Administration Framework Reform can support compliance and supports investment decisions through managing the pipeline of potential measures.

The successful candidate will provide clear direction and support to their teams. The Deputy Director will balance short term urgent requests whilst maintaining progress on longer term reforms. They will also be influencing decision making at senior levels, building collaborative and constructive relationships across the Enterprise. The successful candidate will be comfortable using both quantitative and qualitative information to understand the impacts of policy and/or investment proposals the successful candidate will communicate the impacts of those at a strategic level.
