We are seeking a highly technical and commercially astute Treasury Controller who is an IFRS 9 Specialist and an experienced Technical Treasury Accountant to join the team of a large and instantly recognisable business. This is a pivotal role within the technical accounting team, focused on transforming and integrating the treasury accounting framework across a dynamic and fast-paced group structure.

You will lead and support complex treasury accounting initiatives, with particular emphasis on hedge accounting under IFRS 9, derivative strategy optimisation, and strengthening treasury-related controls and processes. This role offers exposure to a wide range of financial instruments and global operations, making it ideal for someone with deep expertise in IFRS 9 and a passion for technical treasury topics.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the IFRS 9 SME within the technical accounting function, ensuring compliance and best practice application across all treasury-related activities.
  • Drive the integration and standardisation of treasury accounting processes across the group, working closely with group treasury and local finance teams.
  • Redesign and rationalise the group’s hedging portfolio, performing detailed ineffectiveness assessments in accordance with IFRS 9.
  • Execute and document hedge accounting strategies for M&A-related considerations and interest rate risk management, including the use of swaps, options and forward-starting interest rate swaps.
  • Support treasury-related accounting decisions involving borrowings, finance costs, derivatives, and hedge accounting, ensuring robust and consistent treatment under IFRS 9.
  • Review, enhance, and maintain treasury accounting controls, policies, and procedures, with a particular focus on month-end reporting cycles.
  • Oversee accounting for commodities hedging, ensuring accurate exposure capture, effectiveness testing, and hedge documentation.
  • Provide accounting input into the scoping, design, build, and user acceptance testing (UAT) phases of the TMS implementation.

Requirements:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable IFRS 9 hedge accounting experience.
  • Strong technical background in treasury and financial instrument accounting, ideally within a multinational or complex group structure.
  • Prior involvement in treasury transformation projects or system implementations (e.g. Integrity, Quantum, Kyriba and IT2 TMS) is highly desirable.
  • Detailed understanding of derivative instruments and associated risk management strategies.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence senior stakeholders.
