Herts Resourcing Group (HRG) is working with a college in Cambridge and we’re actively looking for Assistant Head of Department (Inclusion) to join their team. You will be required to liaise closely with the Head of Department, other Assistant Heads of Departments, Lecturers and Technicians to ensure the day to day practical and theoretical activities are co-ordinated appropriately. The role will involve working with teams to embed equality and diversity, inclusion practices and to ensure that students with SEND and High Needs are provided with a clear and ambitious personalised curriculum embedding English and Maths within vocational learning. The role ensures that staffing, to support all students achieve on their programme, and daily timetables of learning support are maximised to support high and excellent levels of achievement and attainment for students.
What You’ll Do (including but not limited to):
The purpose of this Team Leader role is to support the Head of Department by:
- To allocate staffing to students with High needs. To allocate staffing within the department to work closely with students requiring additional learning support through effective timetabling of learning support within the Department.
- To manage all Learning Support Mentors by holding regular 1:1 meetings and to monitor performance, provide support and agree targets.
- Conducting appraisals for all Learning Support Mentors in the Department including probationary reviews and the annual life cycle of performance management.
- Developing and implementing a Learning Support Mentor cover rota for the Department.
- Deputising for the Head of Department at Directorate meetings, parent meetings and meetings with external stakeholders, including the Local Authority when required.
- To facilitate the review cycle within the department for students with High needs and to manage high quality progress information in relation to vocational outcomes and English and maths.
- To implement high levels of personalised curricula for students with High Needs with ambitious and stretching outcomes and to be accountable for the use of all college systems linked to learning support.
You Must Have:
- Industry experience of working in a discrete or specialist SEND department
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of successfully managing a large team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to student success and development.
- Management of HR policies, procedures and manging the wellbeing of staff to engage teams with all quality processes.
