The City of Modesto is seeking qualified candidates for its Systems Engineer I/II position. The Systems Engineer I/II is responsible to perform duties pertaining to the management of Network Operating Systems (NOS), Local Area Networks/Wide Area Networks (LAN/WANs), telecommunications networks and/or other computing platforms; and to analyze, plan, install, evaluate, monitor, test and maintain system and application software in a personal computer, client/server, or web environment.
Systems Engineer I - This is the entry level class in the professional Systems Engineer series. Employees in this class typically have little or no directly related professional work experience. The Systems Engineer I is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. Incumbents work under general supervision while learning job tasks, progressing to direction as procedures and processes of the assigned area of responsibility are learned.
Systems Engineer II – This is the journey level class in the Systems Engineer series and is distinguished from the I level by the assignment of the full range of duties. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new, unusual or unique situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. Positions in this class are typically flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level. This class is distinguished from the Senior Systems Engineer in that the latter is the advanced journey level class where incumbents provide direct supervision to assigned staff and perform highly specialized and complex network design, development, analysis, maintenance and administration duties.
