Unique in both quality and diversity, The Royal Collection has a fascinating history, and our Learning section is responsible for sharing its stories in ways that engage, surprise and inspire.

The schools programme consists of a wide range of learning sessions for pupils between the ages of 4 and 18, alongside an extensive family offer during school holidays. As Learning Officer, you’ll therefore play a key role in helping to translate history into exciting and thought-provoking events, via innovative programmes that reach a wide range of audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver taught sessions and organise tours or self-guided visits for schools and other educational institutions, including events in partnership with external institutions.

  • To contribute to the development of new schools’ programmes, resources and learning opportunities in conjunction with the Learning Manager.

  • To develop and deliver provision for families in conjunction with the Learning Manager.

  • To support the programming of the learning team across a range of audiences.

  • Working with colleagues, to promote learning programmes and act as the key contact point for a variety of organisations interested in our Learning provision.

About you:

  • You'll possess a thorough understanding of the National Curriculum and curriculum approaches.

  • You're experienced in devising and leading workshops/practical teaching sessions and developing and producing educational resource material, ideally gained in a museum, gallery or heritage environment.

  • With excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a broad range of people, you'll be able to impart specialist knowledge and unfamiliar concepts in an accessible way for a range of audiences.

  • You'll have the ability to think creatively and innovatively in developing new programmes and means of delivery.

  • At your best working as part of a team, you can establish good professional relationships with colleagues and external partners

  • Able to thrive in a busy environment, you have great planning skills and can maintain patience and empathy when working under pressure.
