Our client, a well-established manufacturing and retail business located near Thrapston, is seeking a steady and knowledgeable Financial Controller to lead and oversee their finance function. This is a confidential search managed by our agency.
About the Role:This is a hands-on role perfect for a seasoned finance professional with a proven history of managing a finance function within a small to medium-sized enterprise. You will be responsible for the entire finance operation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, and cash flow management while supporting the ongoing stability and growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly management accounts and insightful financial reports to drive business decisions
- Manage annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow projections with an eye on business stability
- Lead the day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial close processes
- Ensure compliance with UK statutory and tax requirements (HMRC, Companies House, VAT, PAYE)
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, financial policies, and accounting procedures
- Collaborate closely with senior management to provide financial insights supporting strategic planning
- Supervise and mentor a small finance team, fostering reliability and consistency within the function
- Support ad hoc projects related to investment, funding, or operational improvement
About You:
- Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with solid SME experience
- Track record of stable financial leadership in manufacturing and/or retail environments preferred
- Strong command of UK accounting standards and statutory obligations
- Excellent IT proficiency, including advanced Excel and familiarity with SME accounting software (e.g., Sage, Xero, QuickBooks)
- Strong analytical, communication, and influencing skills with a pragmatic approach to problem-solving
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities and working under deadlines without sacrificing accuracy
