Overview

As an Assistant Ecologist, you will play a key role in supporting the consultancy's ecological services. You will work alongside a team of experienced professionals, providing ecological expertise to inform planning and development projects. Responsibilities

Conduct ecological surveys, including habitat and species surveys, in line with industry standards.
Assist in the preparation of ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs).
Provide support in the delivery of mitigation strategies and biodiversity enhancement plans.
Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with ecological and planning legislation.
Maintain accurate records of fieldwork and ensure data is managed effectively.
Stay up-to-date with relevant ecological and environmental policies, legislation, and best practices.

Requirements

Hold a Field Identification Skills Certificate (FISC) Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
Demonstrable experience in conducting ecological surveys and assessments.Desirable qualifications and skills include:

Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIEEM).
Experience in using GIS software for mapping and analysis.
Protected species survey licences (e.g., bats, great crested newts).The role involves;

Conducting field surveys to assess habitats and species on development sites.
Collaborating with colleagues to analyse survey data and prepare reports.
Attending client meetings to discuss project requirements and ecological considerations.
