Classroom Teacher (SEMH) - Job Summary

Purpose

*

Deliver high-quality academic instruction to young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

*

Create a safe, structured, and supportive environment that promotes both academic progress and holistic development.

Key Responsibilities

*

Curriculum Delivery: Plan and teach across subjects with differentiation, rigor, and preparation for exams (GCSEs, functional skills, accredited qualifications).

*

Learner Support: Maintain high expectations, provide targeted interventions, track progress, and celebrate achievements.

*

Professional Contribution: Collaborate with colleagues, contribute to school improvement, lead curriculum development, and model professionalism.

*

Safeguarding & Pastoral Care: Uphold child protection policies, promote wellbeing, support transitions, and provide emotional guidance.

*

General Duties: Build respectful relationships, manage behaviour, supervise pupils, and contribute to school routines.

*

Assessment & Reporting: Record progress, prepare reports for reviews, and support exam arrangements.

*

Resource Management: Use teaching resources effectively and maintain health and safety awareness.

Person Specification

*

Essential:

*

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

*

Strong subject knowledge and classroom management skills

*

Experience teaching and supporting diverse learners

*

Commitment to safeguarding, resilience, and teamwork

*

Desirable:

*

Additional training in SEND/Autism

*

Experience with SEMH/SEND learners, curriculum leadership, exam preparation

*

Knowledge of EHCP processes and specialist provision

Safeguarding

*

Commitment to child welfare and safeguarding procedures.

*

Enhanced DBS check required.
