Are you a confident communicator with strong negotiation skills and a passion for recovering revenue efficiently and fairly? Join our Wembley-based local authority as a Debt Recovery Officer, supporting essential services by ensuring accurate and timely recovery of council debts.

About the Role

You will be responsible for recovering and enforcing a variety of debts, including:

  • Council Tax (NEC)
  • Sundry Debt (Oracle Advanced Collections)
  • Other debt recovery portfolios managed within the Council

Your role will ensure debt is pursued efficiently, objectively, and in line with legislation, case law, and the Council’s Debt Recovery Policy. You will play a key role in safeguarding the Council’s financial interests and contributing to the sustainability of public services.

Essential Skills & Knowledge

We’re seeking someone who can bring:

Communication & Negotiation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong, confident debt recovery negotiation skills

Analytical Thinking

  • High numerical ability
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

Customer Service Awareness

  • Understanding of what good customer service looks like in a diverse community
  • Ability to communicate with empathy while maintaining clear recovery objectives

Debt Recovery & Enforcement Knowledge

  • Understanding of debt recovery processes relating to at least one of the following:
    • County Court
    • Magistrates’ Court

Working Pattern

  • Hybrid: 1–2 days per week in the office (Wembley)
  • Remaining days worked from home
  • Immediate start, ongoing temporary booking
