About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lecturer in Counselling to join our dynamic and supportive team at GBS. You will contribute to the delivery and development of high-quality counselling programmes at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, ensuring students are well-prepared for ethical, effective professional practice.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated academic or practitioner with a strong background in counselling and psychotherapy who is committed to inspiring and educating the next generation of counselling professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging lectures, seminars, and workshops in counselling theory and practice
  • Supervise and support students in academic, professional, and research-related activities
  • Contribute to curriculum development and course evaluation
  • Participate in assessment, marking, and moderation processes
  • Engage in research, scholarly activity, or professional practice
  • Collaborate with placement providers and support students on placement
  • Contribute to departmental administration and quality assurance processes

About You

Essential Criteria:

  • A recognised qualification in counselling or psychotherapy (e.g. Diploma, MSc, or equivalent)
  • Registration or accreditation with a recognised professional body (e.g. BACP, UKCP, HCPC)
  • Teaching experience in counselling or a related discipline in higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A commitment to inclusive and student-centred teaching practices

Desirable Criteria:

  • A postgraduate teaching qualification or HEA Fellowship (or willingness to achieve it)
  • Experience of curriculum design or leadership in an academic setting
  • Active engagement in research or scholarly activity
  • Experience in online/blended learning
