Our client is a trusted engineering consultancy dedicated to delivering sustainable water, environmental, and energy solutions. Their mission is to design and implement innovative, low-carbon systems that make a positive environmental impact. Operating across the UK, they serve water companies, industrial clients, and developers, providing practical expertise in clean water, wastewater, energy, and infrastructure projects.
Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Commissioning Engineer to take a hands-on role in the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems across water, wastewater, and environmental infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for ensuring systems function as intended, are safe, efficient, and compliant, and are handed over to clients with full documentation and operational reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning Delivery
* Lead the commissioning of electrical systems including control panels, instrumentation, MCCs, VSDs, and telemetry.
* Perform site testing, functional checks, fault finding, and system optimisation.
* Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
* Coordinate with design, construction, and project teams to ensure technical issues are resolved swiftly.
Documentation & Handover
* Produce and maintain commissioning plans, test records, and sign-off sheets.
* Compile O&M information and provide technical handover documentation for client review.
* Ensure 'as-commissioned' drawings and data sheets are accurate and complete.
* Record and communicate non-conformances and support the resolution process.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) systems.
* Conduct risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and toolbox talks where applicable.
* Work to relevant electrical standards and regulations (e.g., BS7671, IET Wiring Regs).
* Ensure safe energisation, isolation, and testing of systems, including LV switchgear and control circuits.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
* Time-served or fully qualified in Electrical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
* Strong background in commissioning of industrial or process-related electrical systems
* Knowledge of water industry assets (pumps, blowers, instrumentation, motor control systems)
* Competent in interpreting electrical drawings and schematics
* Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and communication skills
* UK driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
Desirable:
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
* CompEx, Profibus, or telemetry systems experience
* ECS/CSCS, SMSTS/SSSTS, Confined Space, or EUSR water hygiene certifications
* Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and telemetry integration
