Leading Educators (LE) is a national nonprofit committed to ensuring that all students - no matter their background - have access to high quality teachers and schools. We partner with districts and charter management organizations to help highly effective teachers develop the content, pedagogical, and leadership skills needed to successfully design and deliver rigorous content in their classrooms and throughout their school. We work to strengthen the instructional skills of teacher leaders who, in turn, lead their peers in similar efforts through intensive job-embedded coaching, professional development, and powerful cohort-based learning experiences. POSITION

The Instructional Leadership Coach-English Language Arts role will coach a team of teacher leaders, along with school leaders, in designing and facilitating cycles of professional learning. The cycles of professional learning are research based cycles that leverage the Common Core State Standards for ELA and Mathematics as the focus for adult learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position reports to the Program Director and has the following primary responsibilities:

  • Develop school leaders and teacher leaders in:

    • Content Knowledge and Pedagogical Content Knowledge, including a deep understanding of Common Core aligned assessments and curricular resources for English Language Arts

    • Leadership and management skills needed to support CCSS-aligned Cycles of Professional Learning

    • Develop the school conditions necessary for strong teacher development

  • Build deep and trusting relationships across district/CMO leaders, principals, teacher leaders and teachers and align development needs across these stakeholder groups 

  • Collaboratively design and facilitate high quality professional learning experiences for district/CMO leaders, school leaders, and teacher leaders

  • Facilitate quarterly data reviews with school teams to support collaboration around shared goals

  • Synthesize insights from schools and internal professional learning to drive program innovation

  • Model our core values of Equity, Service, Community, Growth, and Results

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will demonstrate: 

  • Equity is at your core. You bring a lifelong, heartfelt commitment to directly challenging historical inequity and to dismantling systemic racism.

  • You love content. You have a nuanced understanding of the research behind and pedagogy that supports Common Core State Standards for ELA. You have a working knowledge of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, and are eager to deepen your learning.

  • You can walk the walk. You've led significant and measurable student academic achievement results in high-needs schools.  School leadership or instructional coaching experience is strongly preferred.

  • You lead adult learning. You can see the through-line of development needs for leaders at the district/CMO and school level, and how their development will impact teachers and students. You design and facilitate learning around equity, content, and leadership that will allow leaders to impact teachers and students. 

  • You're an influencer. You hold extremely high expectations of yourself, your colleagues, and your partners. You communicate those expectations in a direct, caring, and motivating way.

  • You're a learner. You have a deep hunger for professional growth and continuous feedback.

LOCATION

Chicago, IL, with up to 15% national travel.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Compensation is competitive, commensurate with experience. In addition, Leading Educators offers a very generous benefits package including 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for individual employees. Additional premium costs are covered 60% by Leading Educators for partners and dependents on medical, dental, and vision plans. We also offer a 4% matching 401k plan, Flexible Spending Accounts for medical, childcare and commuter expenses, as well as an employer-sponsored Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) and an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Benefits are valued at or above $8,000 for employees.

Additionally, Leading Educators offers generous time off with pay in order to support a sustainable high-performance work culture. During the first three years of employment, full time staff accrue 22 days a year. Five additional days are accrued after the third and sixth year of employment. Leading Educators also offers 16 additional paid days off for various holidays, including three floating holidays staff may use at their discretion.
