JOB TITLE: PUMP APPLICATION ENGINEER

Position Summary

Supports, organizes and maintains structure between the Sales Specialist and PPS customers, by completing and executing best pump practices and applications for our customers and other PPS employees. Works with the Sales Specialist to perform sales and engineered service functions for targeted markets, programs, and sales support of all coverages assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Maintain an understanding of systems, controls, instrumentation, pumps and pumping systems in every industry.
  • Understand, teach, design, calculate and generate system curves and pump curves. This includes knowledge of friction loss calculations, specific gravity, pressure, temperature, viscosity and all other fluid characteristics in order to properly and precisely size pumps and systems for our employees and customers.   • Possess proficiency in Auto-Cad, Pipe-Flo, Pump-Flo and other pump and system sizing technology.
  • Reads, designs and teaches prints to our staff and customers including scope of work, standards and specifications, competencies and expectations, engineering documents, layouts, drawings etc..  As agreed upon by the Sales Specialist, the PAE will initiate communication with customers, suppliers, manufacturers and service providers in the following areas in order to develop and maintain correspondence and reports: Products or Service Orders, Problem resolution, Delivery, Logistics, and Customer Relations.
  • Document management of quotes, projects, risk coverage, safety policies, purchase orders and purchase order renewals, endorsements, binders, contracts, etc. Including all computer files and suspense for follow-up action.
  • Provide administrative assistance in new customer account set up (tax info, credit applications, etc), accounts receivable delinquencies and other billing policies.
  • Attend and actively participate in production meetings and provide solutions.
  • Inform assigned specialist and prospective customers within the specialist’s market area of any updates of PPS products and services.
  • Prepare and/or present proposals, quotes, and recommendations to field specialist and his/her customers based on customer specific needs and sales of appropriate coverage.
  • Negotiates/communicates with customer procurement departments and arranges payment terms in accordance with established guidelines by the field sales specialist.
  • Provides advisory support and assistance to other employees.
  • May attend sales meetings and educational seminars/activities to remain informed on the latest developments, trends, regulations and technologies in the market place.
  • Perform all work with detailed precision and work-related duties as assigned to prevent errors and omissions.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

  • Engineering Degree for either Mechanical or Process or both. An Associate’s Degree or better is preferred. Based on history and experience, at minimum, high school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of 10 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Industry experience and sales experience is preferred.
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence, to read, interpret, and analyze contracts, policies, documents and regulations such as pipe-flo, pump-flo, and auto-cad.
  • Ability to use and understand fine measuring tools (Fits, finishes, tolerances and indications).
  • Communication skills to effectively establish rapport, present information, and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and the general public; along with excellent interpersonal skill and ability to meet people, listen well, and sell.
  • Basic accounting skills with ability to calculate amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, pro-rata, percentages, and volume.
  • Practical problem solving skills and ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of computer skills. MS Office is mandatory (Word Excel Etc…).
