Commercial IP Associate – Birmingham

A well-established national law firm with a strong presence across the UK is looking to expand its Commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity for a Commercial Associate with at least 2 years’ post-qualification experience and a background in intellectual property matters to join a high-performing and friendly team. You will be involved in a broad mix of commercial and IP-related work, with the chance to build lasting relationships with clients in sectors such as technology, fashion and retail. The firm places a strong emphasis on personal development, client contact and high-quality legal work within a supportive and flexible working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advising on a variety of IP matters, including copyright, trade marks and brand protection
  • Drafting and negotiating commercial agreements involving IP and related rights
  • Supporting clients on advertising, marketing and consumer law compliance
  • Collaborating with colleagues across commercial, litigation and corporate teams on cross-disciplinary matters
  • Playing a role in business development initiatives and client relationship management
  • Keeping up to date with changes in relevant legislation and market trends
  • Assisting in the training and development of junior team members, where appropriate

Requirements:

  • A qualified Solicitor with a minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial and IP law
  • Solid understanding of intellectual property rights and how they apply within commercial contexts
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts with an IP element
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to provide pragmatic, business-focused advice
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support colleagues across the wider team
  • A proactive attitude and enthusiasm for client engagement and development
