The service provides external beam radiotherapy, chemotherapy and brachytherapy as appropriate. The department is going through a period of change and expansion and the exact duties are therefore subject to discussion based on the skills and interests of the applicant. It is expected that the post holder will take a significant role in the further development of chemotherapy techniques.
The post-holder will be primarily based in the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle where the majority of oncology clinics, chemotherapy provision and MDT meetings are held. They will be expected to visit the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven (WCH) approximately once a week to undertake outpatient clinics and see inpatients as required.
There is provision for remote access to Trust IT systems and working from home can be arranged on occasions with agreement from the Clinical Director.
The Trust has the required arrangements in place, as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians, to ensure that all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports doctors going through the revalidation process.
