Salary: £40000 - £50000/annum

My client is a tier 1 main contractor that works the water sector and they are looking for Principal Designers to work out of their Northampton offices on this exciting water framework.


• Undertake problem research and definition including navigating, collecting, and interpreting information relevant to projects and design problems

• Create a fun, dynamic and challenging environment for a team of Designers to develop their careers whilst enhancing team outputs

• Organise testing and surveys when required

• Work with the team to find effective, simple, safe, and efficient solutions to clearly defined problems

• Organise, chair and minute design reviews and progress meetings

• Create and contribute to relevant Design documents including P&ID, GA's, Layouts, Specifications, and schedules

• Add to the library of understanding of problems and solutions

• Bring innovations into the assets base

To join on their quest for industry-leading engineering solutions, you'll hold a degree in a relevant technical field and be a member of a relevant professional body. Professional experience as a Designer in the construction industry is essential to ensure you fully understand the Health & Safety requirements of key design work.


Principal designer (required for multi contractor projects only) shall:

1. Be competent and appointed in writing by their line manager or the client at least on an annual basis;

2. Advise and assist the client with their duties;

3. Select design options so that assets can be constructed, operated, maintained and repaired safely;

4. Coordinate the H&S aspects of the design work;

5. Facilitate good communications with all those involved in the project, ensuring that designers communicate with relevant stakeholders;

6. Prepare a new H&S file, or revise and update the existing H&S File;

7. Liaise with principal contractor regarding H&S file, construction phase plan and subsequent design changes;

8. Ensure relevant design and pre-construction information is passed to those involved in the design of the project and any contractor (including the principal contractor) who has been appointed by the client;

9. On completion of the project ensure an updated H&S file is prepared and issued to the client (preferably the workplace manager)
